Description
Colorado River and Trail Expeditions or "CRATE" officially became a company in 1971. Prior to that time our owner, David Mackay, had worked as a rafting guide since 1964. He was a pioneer of sorts, developing technical backdown and turnaround motorized raft runs still used in the Grand Canyon today. In 1968 David met his future wife Vicki on a Grand Canyon trip. Together they started CRATE in 1971. The spirit of service and excellence that Vicki and Dave began in 1971 continues today, as all members of the CRATE family work together to provide you with an outstanding river trip experience. Colorado River & Trail Expedtions is one of only a handful of rafting companies that is still owned and operated by its original owners.
Our people, from office staff to guides, are what make CRATE the best option for your rafting vacation. Our guides are fun, friendly, excited about their job, and happy to help you in any way possible to make your vacation enjoyable. They are extremely knowledgeable about the areas our trips operate in, and they will be happy to answer any questions you might have about the river and the canyon. We are proud of the experience and longevity of our guides. Most of them have been with CRATE for six years or longer, and our senior Trip Leaders all have ten to twenty years of experience.
